In the company of presidents: Sullivan Ballou is one of such distinguished alumni of Phillips Andover Academy and Brown as John F. Kennedy, Jr., and the presidents Bush.
| Both young people came from educated families whose parents could read and write and who wanted a better education for their children. Sarah's father attended Amherst College. It is obvious that both Sullivan and Sarah are well educated adults, though more is known about his schooling than hers. He attended the local public schools before going to Phillips Academy at Andover as an upper classman. From there he went to Brown University. For more information on these three schools which shaped many great Americans including Bushes and Kennedy's, click on their links. |
| The details of Sarah's education are presently unknown, but as her later life attests, it was excellent. She had an uncle who ran a "Female Academy" and it is possible she attended high school there as an unregistered pupil. Further research may reveal more details. |
